Choosing the DNA test

There are many DNA testing providers on the market, but they vary considerably in terms of the services provided. Even the methods, level of expertise, presentation of results, and prices vary from supplier to supplier.

When you decide to purchase an expensive service that involves your privacy and protection of your sensitive personal data, it is reasonable to make sure that you are getting value for your money.

Below we present a series of questions which you should ask your DNA testing provider before you purchase the test:

Is there a proven connection between the test results and the condition which the test predicts?

LifeGenetics services analyze only those DNA regions that are recognized by the scientific literature and identified as the most relevant in extensive international research. Interpretations of these analyses are based on the latest scientific research published in high impact journals.

LifeGenetics Premium DNA analyses are, at the moment, the most professional and credible nutrigenomic analyses in Slovenia, because they examine 70 genetic variations and are among the most extensive DNA analyses in the world. A handful of suppliers of similar genetic tests examine only 5 to 24 genetic variations on average, which is only a small proportion of all the genetic variations analyzed using LifeGenetics Premium.

How strong is this connection: is it plausible, probable, or reliable?

LifeGenetics Premium DNA analysis is based on the interpretation of an individual’s genetic polymorphisms, which uncover the body’s ability to metabolize different nutrients and the consequent susceptibility for certain diseases. We analyze only those genetic polymorphisms that have been identified as the most relevant in extensive international research; therefore, they have a significant impact on the metabolic pathways of the body. Interpretations of these analyses are based on the latest scientific research published in high impact journals.

How large was the sample population on which the association was based?

When making interpretations, we take into account studies which were carried out using a large sample (thousands, possibly hundreds of thousands of people) and were therefore found to be statistically significant.

Can I ask for a refund?

LifeGenetics services are a novelty in the world. We are aware that the field of genetics is still difficult to understand and is constantly developing, which is why we are constantly striving to develop and improve our products. If you are not happy with the product, our LifeGenetics consultants will be available for further clarification and expert support, and to offer help on how to apply the recommendations you have received. If there are obvious errors or flaws in your report, you can, in accordance with our terms and conditions, always ask for your money back.

Has the evidence for this association been published in expert publications?

What preparation is required for the collection of a saliva sample?

In addition to specialized expertise, LifeGenetics services are marked by easy and painless testing procedures which the customer can perform at home. In order to complete your DNA test, we only need a sample of saliva or a swab from the mucous membrane of the mouth; saliva collection is painless and simple.

Since the effectiveness of genetic analysis depends mostly on the quality of the DNA sample, we recommend that you take a saliva sample on an empty stomach.

After you order the LifeGenetics test, a package containing a saliva sample kit will be sent to your home address.  The kit contains a swab stick, which you rub on the inside of your oral cavity.

Then put the swab in the tube provided and fill out the questionnaire. Send the completed questionnaire and the tube to the specified address in the enclosed postage-paid envelope.

How will you send the results and in what format?

We ensure that the whole procedure for the provision of LifeGenetics services, from order placement to receipt of results, is completely discreet.
